The Assistant Secretary of Internal Affairs, Vladimir Fedorovich Dzhunkovsky, submitted a report on the incident to the Emperor Nicholas II. However, Nicholas II was not convinced, and as a result, Dzhunkovsky lost his post and Rasputin did not lose the favor of the Tsar.
Heliodorus' Revenge
Theofan and Germogen understood that they miscalculated with the person they had placed close to the Tsar. They wanted to have a puppet, who would execute their orders, and it was with some horror that they learned they had misjudged Rasputin. They had several options to regain influence at court. They had a god's fool, Mitya Kobalya, from Kozelsk, who hated Rasputin. He hated him because before Rasputin's arrival in St. Petersburg, he was becoming close to the Tsar. Rasputinâs arrival meant that he had lost any influence in Imperial circles. Mitya Kozelsk began to hate Rasputin fiercely as shown in the following story, and he eagerly joined a conspiracy against him organized by Theofan and Germogen. They invited Grigory to St. Petersburg to the Yaroslavl estate and tried to convince him to leave St. Petersburg and go back to Pokrovsk.
Grigory refused, saying, "I'm fine. What for?" Then Mitya grabbed a pair of scissors and tried to castrate him. Germogen grabbed a huge cross and began to beat Rasputin around the head. He ran, escaped, and was not really hurt. It was the first attempt to kill Rasputin and was unsuccessful. He was afraid that the Emperor would not believe him, but the Emperor made an investigation and finally became convinced that really there was an attempt to murder the healer and the Man of God. Theofan and Germogen's career came to an end, and from this point on, they were separated and banished to provincial dioceses.
Theofan tried to help himself and convince the sister of the Empress, Elizabeth Fyodorovna to argue his case. The thought came to Elizabeth Fyodorovna to enter the Orthodox Church with the rank deaconess (woman deacon). Upon hearing this, he began to yell that it was a terrible heresy because women could not become deacons at the time. Thus, Rasputin was now unchallenged in his role as spiritual guide to the Imperial family.
Of course there was one more very important figure this was the powerful monk, Heliodorus.
